Cant stop smling now!!!

Bit of a late update because i have been so busy recently but there has been some extremely exciting progress!

Last week, Tuesday 22nd March i hired a van and drove over to GBS to collect my kit!!

I took my best mate (and co-builder / garage lacky) Ashley with me for moral support and extra pair of hands. (Not my orange GRP, mine is black but had been safely packed away before deciding to take a pic)

We had another tour of the workshop, ticked off the check list and loaded the van up. Unfortunately there were 1 or 2 bits missing but i knew about that so not a major issue, went back today to collect them anyway. When the van was loaded we headed home to get her back all tucked up in the garage.

With it being Easter weekend i was really busy at work so didnt grt chance to go in the garage and even touch the car for 6 days! But finally, yesterday was my 1st day on the build.

Once again Ashley was round to give me a hand.

1st of all we stored a lot of the panels and all the GRP in the rafters of the garage to make space, then laid out all the different bolts and washers etc so we could individually bag them up for the correct section of car so we know exactly what to use for each part.

As i forgot to get some P clips for the brake lines, there wasnt too much that i could do so we decided to fit the pedals as the 1st major job. (I had already fitted the steering column bushes).
They were a bit tricky and tight fit through the top hat nylon bushes, but we got it sorted in the end!

Thats as far as we got for now, but will be a lot t more updates in the future!!

Good news today!

Today is the day I have been waiting for, and finally it's here!!

Got the call to say my kit is ready to collect!! Going on Tuesday to collect it and get it back to the garage to start building.

Obviously a LOT more news to follow for the foreseeable future!

little bit of progress!

OK,  so here's a little update on a few things.
Basically when I ordered my kit I asked for it to be delivered in April as I have a few other things going on at the minute. Those things are, I have just moved house and month ago so working on that, getting a conservatory built on the new house and I'm also going through the process of setting up a new business and buying out an old 1 with my wife. So very busy...

But I'm getting too excited about the car and don't want to wait any longer! So a quick email to GBS to say if you can get it done quicker I want it asap. So hopefully not too long to wait!

Next, I have spent the day clearing a lot of the garage out to make space for when it does arrive. Also set up a new office in the house so a crappy old desk has now been freed up to be used in the garage for a few bits. And it's come in handy already!

MORE GOODIES HAVE ARRIVED!

Got some Sierra breaks, front and rear. Calipers, disks, pads and drums. Exciting!!
The old desk has come in handy because I can now start cleaning up the breaks and get them looking shiney again, will be buying some RED caliper paint to get the looking fresh after the clean up.

1st batch of goodies!

Today I was having a few goodies delivered.

Unfortunately because of work I couldn't be here when they arrived but my best mate was off work to give me a helping hand.

He was at mine to meet Neil, fellow Zero owner, to unload my new pressies!

Like I said in my previous post, here is the diff!
7" Sierra 3.62 ratio (whatever that gobbledygook means)

Driveshafts to go with the diff

Whilst arranging delivery of the diff, Neil asked if I had any suspension, which was a no! Until now, he had some spare GAZ shockers. The rest are boxed up but here's 1 of them. Wondering if I can paint get them painted up at all? But that's for another day I suppose!

So finally here it is, my whole package of goodies ready to be bolted onto the chassis when the time is right!

Cheers for reading, more to follow!

a few bits to add

As I'm getting more and more obsessed with getting this car, all I ever find myself doing is looking at blogs and forums and on the Internet at bits and bobs.

Whilst on the GPS owners Facebook page I spotted something for sale, a Sierra diff. I am currently in split decisions on whether to leave it as is, just get it fitted, or do I get it reconditioned first. I guess I will wait until I get it tomorrow to decide that.

The guy selling it to me then let me know he also has some shockers for sale too! Seems too good to miss really, they will do for starters and will upgrade them in the future if needed.

All in all, these 2 purchases are setting me back a total of £300. Which is a massive saving really!

exciting day today!

The day has finally come!

After several months of thinking about it and working out the funds, today has been the day that I visited the GBS Factory again to order my Zero!

My order consists of the Ford Based Starter pack with the Cobra Hoops and lowered floor.

To make things easier as I don't have the equipment to do it, I have chosen to get the welds of the chassis flattened and the chassis and wishbones powder coated black.

I have also upgraded to the better looking sports wings, in Black GRP. I had been tempted with the carbon pack but decided against that for now.

The other parts I have ordered are the Steering column bush kit and swirl pot mounting bracket, my 1st jobs when I get the kit. I will be getting all the brake likes and brake master cylinder, fuel lines and fuel tank, and the wiring harness too.

Last couple of bits that will keep me busy to start with will be the rear mounting bracket for the fuel pump and filter, the cockpit infill panels and the luggage infill panels.

I've asked for the build to be ready for early April as the next few months will be busy with various other things, but who knows, if it's ready early and I can collect it then it will be here even sooner!!

Silverstone track day meet

Still no news on when I am going to order my Zero Kit, just trying to organise funds and working out finances etc. But I do have some good news, my wife has agreed to go to the Silverstone track day meet in a couple of weeks.
This will be great for us both, so she can see what I'm getting so excited about, maybe meet a few Zero WAGs? I will try to get her a ride in 1 of the cars to see what she thinks, although she might be too scared.

Some more good news is that she is definitely coming round to the idea of it, and is trying to find me a cheap car that I can strip down and learn how it works before trying to build my own car. She's a goodun!!

See you at Silverstone!!
